Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about credit reporting, our plans, and how WeReportYourRent works.

What is WeReportYourRent and how does it work?

WeReportYourRent helps renters build credit history by reporting on-time rent payments to the credit bureaus. After you sign up and verify your identity, we work with our credit-reporting partner Array to add your rent payment history to your credit profile — so the largest payment you make every month finally counts toward your credit.

Which credit bureaus do you report my rent to?

Today, we report rent payments to Experian and TransUnion through our partner Array. Equifax rent reporting is on Array's roadmap, and we'll add it as soon as it becomes available — at no extra cost to existing subscribers.

Does WeReportYourRent use FICO or VantageScore?

The credit scores you see in your dashboard are VantageScore 3.0 — the same scoring model used by many credit-monitoring services. VantageScore looks at the same underlying credit data as FICO, just with a slightly different formula. Lenders typically look at one or both, and improving one usually improves the other. We use VantageScore because it's the score Array provides through its 1-bureau and 3-bureau bundles.

What's the difference between Basic and Premium?

Basic ($19.99/month) focuses on Experian — you get your Experian credit score and report, credit alerts when something changes, Debt Navigator for personalized repayment guidance, $1 million identity theft insurance, ad-hoc privacy scans across data-broker sites, and rent reporting to Experian and TransUnion.

Premium ($39.99/month) gives you scores and reports from all three bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax — currently VantageScore 3.0 on all three), daily monitoring, a Score Simulator to model the impact of credit decisions before you make them, enhanced identity protection, active privacy removal (we file removal requests on your behalf), and Subscription Manager to see and cancel any recurring charge in one place.

Both tiers include the same rent reporting and AI credit assistant. See full comparison →

How long does it take for my rent to show up on my credit report?

Once you complete rent enrollment and we receive your first payment confirmation, your rent typically appears on your Experian and TransUnion credit profile within 1–45 days. Why the range? Bureaus refresh on their own schedule — some members with a thin credit file see their score move within days of the first report we send, while others wait through the full 30–45 day bureau update cycle. If you opt in to our 24-month rent history lookback, eligible past on-time payments can also be added to accelerate the impact on your score. Individual results vary based on your existing credit history.

Can I add past rent payments?

Yes. We offer up to 24 months of rent history lookback — if you have eligible past on-time rent payments, we can include them so the impact on your credit score starts immediately rather than waiting months to accumulate. Eligibility depends on documentation (lease history, payment records) and is verified during enrollment.

What is a rental tradeline?

A rental tradeline is a line-item on your credit report that reflects your rent payment history. Rent payments are not automatically included on your credit report — a credentialed third party has to report them. WeReportYourRent works with our partner Array, a credentialed rental payment data furnisher to the major credit bureaus, so every on-time rent payment becomes a positive tradeline on your Experian and TransUnion credit reports.

Will this decrease my credit score? What if I missed a rent payment or two?

No — we only report on-time rent payments, never missed or late ones. You can still use WeReportYourRent if you've missed a couple of rent payments or have been late in the past; those payments simply stay private. Enrollment itself does not involve a credit check or hard inquiry, so signing up has no negative impact on your score. The only signal we send to the bureaus is positive payment behavior.

What's the fastest my rent can show up on my credit report?

In the best case, rent payments can appear on your credit report in as few as 10 days from enrollment. That happens when (a) the bureau is in the middle of its refresh cycle when our data arrives, and (b) your credit file already has other tradelines to anchor the new one. More typically you'll see the new tradeline within 30–45 days. We can't guarantee a specific day because every bureau runs on its own update schedule. If you opt in to our 24-month rent history lookback, the impact often shows up faster because there's more positive data to anchor.

What if I have a roommate?

Yes — all renters on the lease are eligible, as long as there's a formal lease agreement and each roommate is named on it. Each roommate enrolls with their own account and verifies their own rent payments. Even if one of you pays the landlord directly and the others reimburse via Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App, every roommate can independently build their own credit history through WeReportYourRent.

Is my information secure? Are you FCRA compliant?

Yes. We're built with FCRA compliance from day one — we only report positive, on-time rent payments (never missed or late ones), we use parameterized database queries and HTTPS/HSTS everywhere, payments are processed by Stripe (PCI DSS Level 1), and identity verification runs through Array's bank-grade infrastructure. We don't sell your personal information. For full details, see our Privacy Policy and Compliance pages.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel anytime from your dashboard or by contacting support — no cancellation fee, no minimum term, no penalty. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; your subscription and rent reporting remain active until then. Monthly fees are non-refundable for the period in which you cancel because your bureau reporting service is already paid in full for that period. Past rent payments we've already reported remain on your credit history (we don't remove positive payment data when you cancel).

What is the referral program?

Every subscriber and every individual landlord who joins gets a unique referral link. You earn $10 for each person who signs up through your link and becomes a paying subscriber. Individual landlords get an additional benefit: a free Basic-tier membership while they have at least one active tenant-referred subscriber. There's no limit on how many people you can refer.
